What are Dentures?
At Peterborough Dental Clinic, our dentists can replace missing teeth with dentures that look and function similarly to natural teeth.
These artificial tooth replacements should be versatile enough to replace one missing tooth, a row of teeth (partial dentures), or a whole jaw (full dentures) as required.
Why Replace Missing Teeth?
Your oral health is essential to your overall health, and replacing any missing teeth should be a high priority. With dentures, your facial structure can be preserved, enabling you to speak and eat correctly.
Full Dentures
Also known as complete dentures or false teeth, full dentures are used if a patient is missing an entire jaw of teeth.
They may be fitted for upper or lower gums and are affixed to their place with oral adhesive and/or suction. You may remove full dentures for sleeping or cleaning.
Dentures may be used in combination with dental implants so they fit more securely.
Partial Dentures
If you are missing more than a few teeth, your dentist will opt to use partial dentures.
Held in place by clasps that are fastened onto your natural teeth, partial dentures can include one or more artificial teeth. They can also be used with a tooth replacement such as a dental crown. You can remove partial dentures for cleaning or sleeping.
