What is a Bridge?
At Peterborough Dental Clinic, gaps left by missing teeth can be filled with a dental bridge by our dentists.
Made of one or more artificial teeth, a bridge is affixed to the natural teeth on either side of a gap to fill space, connecting existing teeth. The result: your smile is restored!
The Bridge Procedure
Sometimes referred to as a fixed partial denture, bridges are semi-permanent and bonded to existing teeth or implants.
While you would usually need two dental appointments for a bridge procedure, our onsite technology allows us to make and apply your new bridge in the same appointment.
First, your dentist will clean and prepare your teeth, then create impressions that will be sent to a specialized dental lab. This is where your new dental bridge will be created.
Once your new dental bridge is ready, your dentist will bond it to your existing natural teeth, crowns, or implants permanently.
Benefits of Dental Bridges
Each dental bridge is customized to fit a patient's individual mouth. The precise fit gives your teeth a smooth, natural look.
Bridges can help restore the natural contour of your teeth, as well as the bite between upper and lower teeth.
A bridge connects existing teeth and fills a gap, helping to prevent your other teeth from shifting positions to fill the space, which could lead to more serious dental issues including gum disease.
Your general oral health - and your smile - can be restored thanks to a bridge.
